See all questionsYes. Facilities can find your verified profile in the directory and message you about a specific shift, in-app — you see the shift details and chat right there. Accepting the invitation turns it into a normal application the facility then confirms, so it never locks you in, and you can decline or opt out of the directory anytime.
If the facility cancels within 24 hours of the shift start, you receive 50% of the booked amount as cancellation pay — held in escrow and paid out automatically. If they cancel earlier, you get nothing, but the shift slot is immediately re-listed and we will surface relevant alternatives to you first.
The geofence check-in has a 15-minute grace window. Beyond that, the facility chooses whether to release full pay, partial pay, or cancel. Any decision they make is logged. If a facility consistently refuses to pay for short delays, that pattern shows up in their rating — locums see it before applying.
Yes — eventually. Contact details unlock after a shift is completed (not before). After that, you and the facility can arrange direct work outside Locum. We do not enforce a "no off-platform" clause. We would rather earn your repeat use than lock you in.
Locum income is independent contractor income — you are responsible for your own provisional tax and SARS submissions. Locum issues you a year-end summary of all payments and exports IRP6-ready spreadsheets. Most healthcare professionals on the platform work with a part-time accountant; we keep a list at /clinicians/tax.
Under POPIA you have the right to delete. We honour that within 14 days. Personal data is purged; audit logs of past shifts are retained (anonymised) for 7 years as required by financial regulation. You can also export everything we hold about you in one click — DSAR endpoint is in your profile settings.
